Touring Exhibition Plein Air

08.12. — 11.12.2015
European Parliament Brussels

Christa-Luise Riedel interprets the subject Stadt-Raum-Kunst in her five-part series “Vitrum” by representing the city’s essential elements. She portrays her concrete observations in constructions comprised of scenes, three of which are conspicuously interconnected. Artistic descriptions of the roof and the steeples of the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, the facade elements of the Waidhaus and the old town bridge are highly reduced in form and colour, but nevertheless distinctly recognisable. The arrangement of geometric metaphors representing real origins creates a three-dimensional space. Beyond this, the Jakobsweg is only symbolically suggested by its colourful starting and ending points apparently disappearing into the distance and seems to have time standing still. The installation, “VIAE” is also symbolically reduced as the artist uses porous blocks of material as well as some that have been sanded and polished smooth in her effort to point out the historic trade links of the city of Görlitz.
