In her work “Via Regia” Grażyna Kulej-Zwiernik creates the effect of intersections, roads, market squares and public venues, architecture and people to converge into one living organism. By presenting the Königsstraße as extending beyond the picture’s frame, she underscores the magnitude of its significance in both past and present times. In her work “Wasser” [water], the artist refers to the city’s inner and outer limits: Her perception and visualisation of the crumbling walls showing signs of decay is juxtaposed demonstratively with her observations regarding people who like to look back on bygone eras, and whose yearning for the beauty contained in the past strikes her as being similar to the same daily longing to quench their thirst.
