Touring Exhibition Plein Air

08.12. — 11.12.2015
European Parliament Brussels

In her paintings “old city structures" Dagmar Stade-Schmidt focuses on window and bridge images in the historic city centre. Roughly applied layers of paint provide an effect of superimposed, cracked layers of time giving rise to the fascination with bridge building. Systematically deciding to use a reduced, clear design, the artist symbolically expresses the crusade and triumph of the woad plant with its properties of dyeing fibres blue, in her work, “Waidregionen” [woad regions]. Heavy, rugged lines take shape from brittle appearing structures in the surface and give the composition and the visual content an unusual intensity. A certain sensation of heaviness becomes palpable.
